Please note this workshop demonstrates searching techniques using the NICE Healthcare Databases Advanced Search (HDAS) and this search platform will close down on 31 March 2022. You may prefer to book onto the 'NHS001: Rapid access to evidence-based resources' workshop which covers how to search for and access e-journal articles via the new NHS Knowledge and Library Hub.
A new 'NHS002 Healthcare Databases for Advanced Searchers' workshop is also available to book onto from February introducing the specialist databases for those who require more in-depth searching skills.

Course availability 

Open to all. Places are limited and are on a first come, first served basis. 

Target group 

NHS staff who require basic help, advice and support to improve their database searching skills and knowledge when undertaking a literature review. 

Overall aim 

The aim of this workshop is to introduce you to basic literature searching skills and direct you towards key health-based resources.  

key areas covered in the workshop will include: 

• Planning and designing an effective search strategy 

• Identifying key healthcare databases and their content 

• Effective use of search techniques e.g. phrase searching, truncation 

• Locating and accessing full text articles 

Preparatory task
