Course availability
Open to all. Places are limited and are on a first come, first served basis.
Target group
Students and staff from the Health and Life Sciences faculties who require an introduction to advanced database searching skills, and to access advice and support to improve their searching skills and knowledge when undertaking a literature review. It will also be relevant for those looking to develop searching skills prior to undertaking a systematic review. Learners who complete this course will be able to book onto the advanced course LIB261: Search Techniques for Systematic Reviews. Webinar.

Overall aim
The aim of this workshop is to introduce you to advanced literature searching skills and direct you towards key health-based resources.
Key areas
It is anticipated that key areas covered in the workshop will include:
- Planning and designing an effective search strategy
- Identifying key healthcare and multidisciplinary databases and their content e.g. Medline, Web of Science
- Effective use of search techniques e.g. phrase searching, truncation, adjacency/proximity searching
- Understand the value of keywords and subject heading searches
- Locating and accessing full text articles
Preparatory work
We have created a suite of elearning material called KLaSS (King's Learning and Skills Service) to complement this session. Find it through your KEATS dashboard by searching for 'KLaSS - Finding Academic Material for Introductory Health Topics'. It is not compulsory to complete this ahead of the session.
Delivery
This session will be delivered using Microsoft Teams for online teaching, which you can access either through the web or via a downloadable app.
