Searching the King's library catalogue: User experience research In-Person

We’d like to learn about your experience of using our library catalogue interface, Library Search.

To find out what works well for you and what does not, we'll set you a number of tasks to try and complete on our system, sitting in front of a computer in a quiet room with our researcher. We'll ask you to tell us your thoughts and feelings out loud as you attempt to complete these tasks. We will record your voice as you do this, and what happens on your screen. Our researcher will observe you, take notes, and occasionally offer a prompt. Afterwards, they will ask you questions about your experience. (There may be one additional observer present, for staff training purposes - please let us know if this would put you off and we'll change it.)

The purpose of this research is to help us understand how the Library Search interface is working for King's students and staff, what challenges exist, to help us prioritise areas for improvement. It is not a test of your search skills but of the useability of our system, and we would be very grateful for your input.

We particularly would like to include students from backgrounds underrepresented in academia, such as First Generation or disabled students. But everyone is welcome!

This is a one-hour session and you’ll receive £15 King’s Food vouchers in return for your time and insight.

On the day, we'll meet you inside the Maughan Library: after the gates, turn left and then left again, into the lift lobby. Please let us know if you have any access requirements, and contact ML-LC-ServiceDevelopment-Managers@kcl.ac.uk with any questions or comments.

Thank you in advance for helping us improve King's library services!
