Overall aim
To increase your confidence in applying critical appraisal skills to published research through a guided discussion of a piece of qualitative research.
Key areas covered in the workshop will include:
- Using a CASP checklist to identify key aspects of qualitative research
- Working as a group to discuss and appraise a piece of qualitative research
Preparatory work
Please ensure you read the set article prior to attending, using the CASP checklist as a guide. These are available as attachments in the box at the foot of this page but will also be sent to you 2 days prior to the workshop. The article will form the focus of our group discussion.

Course availability
Places are limited and are on a first come, first served basis but the session is repeated once a month. Please register using your KCL email to enable you to fully participate. Registration closes 2 days prior to the workshop to allow participants time to complete the preparatory work.
You will then be sent an invitation with the link to the Teams meeting.
Target group
King’s students who require help, advice and support to improve their critical appraisal skills and knowledge of qualitative research.
Format
The online workshop will be used to critically appraise the set article using a CASP checklist, which will be sent to you prior to the workshop (and is available here as an attachment). These workshops rely upon group discussion so please ensure you have the necessary internet set-up to be able to participate.

This session will be delivered using Microsoft Teams for online teaching, which you can access either through the web or via a downloadable app.

Cancellation
Please note, this workshop requires at least 2 attendees to run and may be cancelled in the case of insufficient numbers. You will be emailed in advance of any workshop cancellation.
